Moremi's exceptional reputation is due in significant part to the phenomenal Mombo private concession. This extraordinarily bio diverse area in the northwest of Chief's Island is home to Africa's most consistent big game concentrations - year-round.
BEST TRAVEL PERIOD FOR WILDLIFE SPOTTING (DRY PERIOD) JUNE - OCTOBER
THE WETLANDS FILL UP FROM NOVEMBER TO MARCH
The area was once part of Lake Makgadikgadi, an ancient lake that unfortunately dried up completely 10,000 years ago. Because there is no agriculture or other industry in the Okavango Delta, the water entering the delta is unusually pure. It makes its way through the sandy soils of the various islands, where it eventually evaporates. In the process, it leaves behind large amounts of salt. This salt is so strong that vegetation disappears completely, leaving only thick crusts of salt. The delta is a constant process of drying up and flooding. Thanks to all the water of the Okavango Delta, the area is also visited by a number of special animals. These include elephants, buffalo, hippos, the giraffe, crocodiles, lions, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas and rhinos. The chances of seeing the Big 5 are significantly greater here. Bigger than in the famous Kruger Park Especially in the rainy season you will see a lot of action here, this is from November to April. During this time everything turns green, animals begin to mate and all kinds of animals come to life.
BEST TRAVEL PERIOD FROM NOVEMBER - APRIL
If spotting elephants in the wild is on your bucket list, you can definitely tick it off after a visit to Chobe National Park. In addition to the large groups of elephants living here, this park is also the oldest National Park in Botswana. Also, in terms of biology, Chobe National Park is very diverse! You will find many different groups of animals and with that, of course, a lot of activity. All the ingredients you need for a great safari. You will find this park in the North of Botswana and it has one of the largest concentrations of game in all of Africa. As mentioned, Chobe National Park is the oldest National Park in Botswana. Chobe National Park is not one large section. The park can be divided into four different sections.
BEST TRAVEL PERIOD MAY - OCTOBER (DRY PERIOD).
The Serondela area, also called the "Chobe Riverfront," is found in the northeastern part of the park. You used to find a lot of teak wood here, however today much of it is flattened by the large herds of elephants.
The Chobe River that runs through this area is an important source of water for the animals. Especially during the dry season, from May to October, many elephants, giraffes and buffaloes use the river to drink. The Serondela area is the only place where you can see antelope in this park. Also, this park is most visited because of the nearby Victoria Falls and the village of Kasane.
The Savuti Marsh area is located in the West of Chobe National Park. Especially in the dry season, this area is crowded.
You will spot rhinos, impalas, zebras, wildebeest and of course elephants.
During the rainy season, you will find many birds, sometimes more than 450 different species.
If you are lucky you will also spot lions, hyenas, zebras and cheetahs in this part.
The Linyanti Marsh is located in the northwestern part of the park. Much of this area consists of water, called lagoons.
You will find here mainly large troops of lions, leopards, wild dogs, elephants and antelopes.
Given the amount of water, spotting crocodiles is also very likely.
Between the Linyanti Marsh and the Savuti Marsh you will find mostly warm and dry landscape which they call "hinterland.
This is where you should be mainly for spotting the eland.
To see one of the most impressive migrations in the world, you have to be in Makgadikgadi Pans National Park. Especially during the rainy season, from November to March, the vast salt flats in this park are full of water. We are happy to share our tips about this special place. The salt plains are also called salt pans, hence the name "Makgadikgadi Pans National Park. The park consists of two gigantic salt flats. Similar to Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia. However, the Makgadikgadi Pans have more grassland. Because this region has a fairly wet rainy season, it attracts an awful lot of wildlife. The salt flats are a remnant of the former Makgadikgadi Lake. The park is located between the Okavango Delta and surrounded by the Kalahari - Desert. Due to the presence of the Boteti River, many animals come here in recent years, especially during the dry season from May to October. During these months, the river is the only permanent source of water in the reserve. If you come to see wildlife it is better to come during the rainy season. The waters and salt flats attract a lot of animals and the beginning of the rainy season is also the beginning of migration.
BEST TRAVEL PERIOD
DEC - MAR - TO SPOT ANIMALS
JULY-OCT - TO ADMIRE THE SALT FLATS
The name Kalahari is derived from the word kgalagadi , meaning "Land of Thirst. There is no lie to that because it is one of the largest sand plains in the world. The desert is a vast, arid landscape with small groves, fire-red sand and ancient rivers that have long since disappeared.
It is the counterpart of the Okanvango Delta and this gigantic area stretches across Congo, Angola, Zambia, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa. The Kalahari, over 1 million square kilometers in size, is characterized by high, sparsely vegetated sand dunes. Living here seems almost impossible, also due to the extreme temperatures. Nothing could be less in the north the country is populated by hard-working farmers and communities still descended from the indigenous San Hunter and Khoi peoples.
BEST TRAVEL PERIOD
FROM NOVEMBER - MAR THEN THE ANIMALS CONGREGATE IN DECEPTION VALLEY.
Gaborone is not only the impressive capital of Botswana, it is also the economic center of the entire country. You will find the city just 15 kilometers from the border with South Africa. The city also sometimes called "Gabs" .It is one of the quieter capitals in Africa. Unfortunately, there is also not much to do and not a city to stay in for a long time. Unlike many cities in Africa, Gaborone is a modern city with shopping malls and unusual buildings. There is little history to be found. Most people therefore quickly travel on to other, more beautiful, places in Botswana.
You can visit the National Museum & Art Gallery or the Gaborone Dam. For those who like shopping, you have "The Mall" or " The African Mall".
Furthermore, you can go on safari in Gaborone Game Reserve, a busy park and the third most popular park in Botswana.
The Tsodilo Hills basically consist of a group of several hills. The four hills differ overwhelmingly in size, so you can easily see all the hills from a distance. The hills are seen as a small family. In fact, the largest hill is the "male hill" which is joined by the "female hill" and, of course, the children. The male hill is about 400 meters high, the female hill follows with a height of 300 meters and the child concludes with a height of about 40 meters. The petroglyphs you can find here make the whole thing magical, and therefore incredibly interesting for anyone visiting Botswana and the Kalahari Desert. You should be well prepared for this trip. This is because there is nothing for sale in the Tsodilo Hills area, so you will have to bring everything yourself. However, you will find minimal facilities such as a toilet.
Most travelers go to Botswana to spot wildlife. This is best done during our summer months of June through August, and the period after that until mid-October. From that month, the rainy season begins. Due to the increasing rainfall, the vegetation in the parks then becomes denser, making elephants and lions more difficult to spot.
During the summer months it is winter in Botswana. This is especially noticeable at night, when it is freezing cold. During the day, however, it is lovely in the sun.
The best month to visit Botswana is probably September, when the temperature climbs a bit, but the rainy season has not yet started. Moreover, in September the summer vacations in Europe are over and so it is a bit quieter in the parks.
